Uttoxeter Quilt Show

Saturday I managed to visit the quilt and embroidery exhibition being held at Uttoxeter race course.  What a treat that was!  There was a section devoted to the Egyptian quilts with demonstrations of the applique used for them.  That guy shown in the photo was amazing - he drew the design outline and then covered the whole area with needle turn applique.  Truly stunning designs.

I also had a play on a longarm quilting machine which had me green with envy.  Imagine being able to see the whole width of the quilt when you are quilting - not just the small section that you are working on while part of the quilt is scrunched up to the right of the needle.  I think that I'd need to win the lottery before I could afford one of them, but I can always dream.

The embroidery section was fascinating given that I do very little embroidery.  I have signed up for a workshop to learn how to use an interlocker and what they can do, so I'm looking forward to that.

I've finished the Lucky Star block of the month for April and I love the result.  I'll definitely be using this one in a quilt some time.  I really must put a paper piecing section on the website:  you can make far more intricate quilt blocks with paper piecing.

Last week's quilt pattern was a raised box quilt which has a lovely three dimensional look to it.  It's amazing what a difference you can make by just changing the corner of the square to a half square triangle.

I know that I said I would be moving this blog across to my website, but I've decided that I like blogger so I'm going to stay here.  Maybe I'm just being a coward after all the problems that I had when moving my website, but here I'm staying1

Thanks for visiting my blog.
Hope to see you again soon.
